About RBT40
Training by ACE Provider BCBAs
RBT40 was founded by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who owns and operates Bardin Behavioral Health, an ABA clinic in Columbia, South Carolina. We know what new technicians need on their first day with a client, because we hire, train, and supervise RBTs.
Bardin Behavioral Health has been a BACB Authorized Continuing Education (ACE) Provider for six years, delivering continuing education to behavior analysts. RBT40 brings that same commitment to quality training to the people just entering the field.
That experience shapes every training we deliver. Trainees spend their time practicing the skills they will use, getting feedback from people who do this work every day, and learning how ABA looks in the settings where they will actually serve.
The result is new RBTs who are confident, competent, and ready to contribute.

Practice, then feedback
Trainees rehearse discrete-trial teaching, prompting, preference assessments, and data collection in live role-play, using modeling with examples and non-examples.

Every section of the 2026 curriculum, with room to tailor
The BACB sets a minimum for each of eight sections, totaling 38 hours. The remaining 2 hours can go to any section. We place them where your staff will benefit most.

Initial Competency Assessment
From training to assessment, with one team
After the 40-hour training, every RBT applicant must demonstrate 20 tasks on the BACB's Initial Competency Assessment. Organizations that choose in-person training can have RBT40 administer it too.

Frequently asked questions
How long does the training take?
At least 40 hours of instruction, completed over no fewer than 5 days and no more than 180 days. We build the schedule around your organization's calendar, whether that's a single intensive week or sessions spread across a semester.
Is live online training accepted by the BACB?
Yes. The 40-hour training may be delivered in person, online, or both, as long as it includes behavioral skills training components such as modeling, role-play with feedback, and instructor-led discussion.
Who designs and oversees the training?
The training is designed and overseen by a BCBA serving as the Responsible Trainer, as the BACB requires. Trainers are not employed by or related to trainees.
Does the training include the RBT exam?
No. After the training and the Initial Competency Assessment, applicants submit their application to the BACB and take the RBT exam separately. We cover these next steps during training.
